Pupil leadership & Extra Curricular Activities
Pupil leadership:
The term pupil leadership refers to education principles and practices that reflect the importance of providing children with the opportunities and support to play a role in making the decisions that affect them. The principles of effective pupil leadership include:
- Recognising that pupils have logical perspectives and opinions on issues that matter in the classroom, in the school, and in the community.
- Giving pupils an active role in influencing decisions about these issues as well as in the implementation of these decisions.
- Enabling pupils to participate as active young citizens.
There is much evidence to suggest that when pupils engage with pupil leadership programmes that have a positive impact their capacity for learning increases. With this in mind, children in KS2 are given the opportunity to play an active role in the life of the school and contribute to many areas of our effective school community through our varied pupil leaderships groups such as Prefects, Worship Team, Well-being committee, Eco Team, librarians and more. As a member of our Pupil Leadership Team, the children get to make a difference to their school community each and every day!
Extra curricular
As well as our daily curriculum we offer a wide range of extra curricular activities to ensure that children engage and experience as much as we can give them opportunity to do so. From the range of afterschool clubs which change half termly to the visits and visitors that are planned across the year, to the lunchtime sports tournaments, the chance to perform in end of term concerts to our extremely popular enrichment program where the children get to choose from a list of activities and they mixed with the rest of the school enjoying learning a new skill or practicing a beloved one. Over the year, we plan for special theme weeks/ days, these range from World Book day, Mental Health day, Anti-bullying day, Poetry day, Remembrance day and other charity event fundraisers to Cultural week, Climate awareness week, Healthy me week, Safety week, Spirituality week and decades day ( children all experience a day of British History from 1920-2020). We try to also include activities for any special National or local celebrations that are happening.
Some of the enrichment choices we offer are: Junior PCSOs, sports, Bhangra, tap dance, street dance, art, sewing, crochet, Computing, outdoor activities, recorders, percussion, mendhi.
Some of the afterschool clubs we offer include: art, football, cricket, archery, basketball, science, musical theatre, choir, book club, science, computing, multi-sports, tennis, youth club and forest schools.
After school club timetables are updated half termly. We offer a range of activities Monday to Friday for children from Y1-Y6. Clubs are delivered by school staff or Aspire coaches.
