Pastoral Care
Pastoral care and personal development
At St.Clement’s, we consider the pastoral care and nurturing of our children and their families, a top priority. School can often be a safe space for children and sometimes families, to share their worries, joys and anxieties. Our pastoral manger is highly trained and effective in supporting not only the children but their families, with a wide and varied range of issues. The mental health and emotional well-being of pupils is given focus through our embedded safeguarding curriculum and our weekly PHSE and Personal development sessions for all classes. The children are taught how to recognise when mental health may not be all they want it to be. We do lots of work on resilience and growth mind set which supports children in all their endeavours. Pastoral care is how we ensure the physical and emotional welfare of our pupils. Our very successful pastoral support program enables children to feel safe, happy, involved in the school community and able to perform to their full potential. Happy pupils integrate well with others and develop a good support network with in turn support resilience and self-esteem. We currently hold a nationally recognised award for well-being and we are a Unicef Silver rights respecting school.
We recognise the importance of personal development and children having their own identity and aspirations for the future. As well as academic development, our children are given a wide range of opportunities and rich experiences, through the curriculum and beyond. We provide children with opportunities to discover what their talents and interests are, and we have a strong take up by pupils in participating in the wide-ranging opportunities we offer.
Personal Development is at the heart of our school learning journey. It encourages promotes, adopts and embeds a range of skills that allow children to be life-long learners and be the best that they can be.
As part of a whole-school approach, Personal Development education develops the qualities and attributes children need to thrive as individuals, family members and members of society. We promote effective relationships between all members of the school community. Personal Development education contributes to children building their personal identities, confidence and self-esteem and understand what influences their decisions. Developing self-understanding, empathy and the ability to work with others helps our pupils to enjoy healthy and productive relationships in all aspects of their lives.
